If you are a bird-watching enthusiast or just interested in the avian world, here are some opportunities to see our feathery friends:
At 7 p.m. Feb. 7, wildlife photographer Bob Steele will present pictures and a program on the birds of Midway Island. It takes place in downtown Bakersfield at the Kern County Superintendent of Schools building, 1300 17th St. Call (661) 322-7470 for more information.
At 8 a.m. Feb. 8, there will be a field trip to the Lanker Preserve to see wintering waterfowl. Meet at the Kern Parkway parking lot across from Cal State Bakersfield, at Stockdale and Don Hart Drive. Contact Al for more information at (661) 833-6705.
At 8 a.m. Feb. 11, there will be a field trip to the Kern and Pixley Wildlife Refuges to see ducks and winter birds. This is an all-day trip with lunch at Lost Hills. Meet at the Costco Rosedale parking lot. Contact Angela for more info. or go to kastehachapibird.org.
At 4 p.m. Feb. 12, there will be a field trip to see the Sandhill Cranes at sunset. Meet at the Rosedale Costco parking lot near the gas station to carpool. The cost is $10 for gas. Call 322-7470 or go to kernaudobonsociety.org.
